The Société has installed more than 300 m of anti-wash protection along the Vers Ars reed bed and is trialling reed replanting in this area.
The Société du Lac is committed to protecting the site:
- it has the water and sediments analysed regularly;
- it helps maintain the reed beds, in particular by preventing any intrusion, removing boats left there and installing the necessary protection;
- it provides the moorings needed to stop buoys multiplying and to remove stakes, tyres and drums;
- it ensures that navigation rules are respected;
- it takes action in the event of pollution, including legal action;
- it organises shore clean-ups when needed;
- it sometimes intervenes urgently to remove dangerous floating objects from the lake;
- it bans all hunting on the lake, but has sought and obtained permission to cull the muskrats that damage the reed beds and banks, and the cormorants whose numbers upset the balance of the fish population;
- it opposes the concreting of the banks and illegal backfilling;
- it deplores uncontrolled access to the banks and has drawn the authorities' attention to this issue.
The lake warden, who is sworn in, may issue an official report when the rules of conduct are breached.
